Weld Tracking Software

Weld Tracking Software for Pipe Welding Contractors

Track every weld from the field to turnover: who welded it, under which procedure revision, and whether it passed inspection, with welder qualification checks and real-time productivity built in.

What weld tracking means on a piping job

Weld tracking is keeping a live record of every weld joint: where it is, who welded it, under which procedure, and whether it has passed inspection. On ASME B31.3, B31.1 and API 1104 work, that record is the traceability chain an inspector or owner will ask for, and on DOE O 414.1 and ASME NQA-1 work it's a hard requirement.

WeldMapper tracks each weld against its location on the drawing, so status, records and productivity all come from the same data the field is already entering.

Everything you track, per weld

Full traceability chain

Each joint records the welder, the WPS pinned to the exact revision used, pipe size, schedule, material spec and heat numbers. A weld made under Rev 2 still reports Rev 2 after the procedure moves to Rev 3.

Live weld status

Every joint is open, in progress, complete or rejected. Project managers see progress across all projects in real time instead of waiting for marked-up prints.

NDE, PWHT and repairs

Inspectors record visual and NDE results (with method and the inspector who signed them), PWHT status and repairs against the joint, and can review across the whole company with read-only QA/QC access.

Welds per man-hour

Because every weld is logged with a timestamp and the crew behind it, WeldMapper reports welds-per-man-hour in real time, so you can spot bottlenecks while the job is still running.

Catch qualification gaps before the audit does

Tracking welds isn't enough if the welder wasn't qualified to make them. WeldMapper keeps a WPS registry (with PQRs and revision history) and each welder's WPQs, then cross-checks every weld for three things: a procedure covers the joint as welded, the welder holds a qualification for that procedure, and the qualification is still in continuity under ASME Section IX QW-322. Each welder's qualifications show as green, amber or red cards, computed live so they're never stale. You can upload existing WPS and WPQ PDFs and WeldMapper pre-fills the registry for review instead of retyping them.

Spreadsheet weld logs vs. WeldMapper

Where the data comes fromField paperwork re-keyed into a spreadsheet by the office.Welders log from a phone at the joint; inspectors add results to the same record.
Procedure revisionsThe log says which WPS, rarely which revision. Each weld is pinned to the exact WPS revision used.
Welder continuityChecked by hand, usually when an auditor asks.Computed continuously; lapses show up while the job is running.
Progress and productivityEstimated at the weekly meeting.Live status per joint and welds-per-man-hour per crew.
TurnoverWeld log rebuilt and cross-checked at the end of the job.Export the weld log to CSV and the Weld Map PDF on demand.

Common questions

What is weld traceability?

Weld traceability is the ability to take any weld joint and trace it back to the welder who made it, the procedure and revision they used, the material and heat numbers, and every inspection result. WeldMapper captures that chain per joint as the work happens, so a traceability report is an export rather than a reconstruction.

Is this weld seam tracking for welding robots?

No. Weld seam tracking (sometimes sold as weld trackers) guides a robotic torch along a joint. WeldMapper is weld tracking in the documentation sense: tracking each weld's status, records and inspection results across a piping project for QA/QC and compliance.

Can WeldMapper replace our spreadsheet weld log?

Yes. Welds are logged against the drawing from the field and the weld log is generated from that data. It's filterable in the app and exports to CSV, so you can still hand an owner a spreadsheet without anyone maintaining one by hand.

Who can see and edit weld records?

Access is role-based: welders log their own welds, foremen manage their team's welds and isos, inspectors get read-only QA/QC review across the company, project managers create and manage projects, and admins manage the account.

Does WeldMapper track welder qualification expiry?

Yes. Qualification status is computed from each welder's activity, so it's never a stale field someone forgot to update. Cards turn amber as a welder approaches a QW-322 continuity lapse and red once it has lapsed, and project managers can record that a procedure was used today to reset continuity.
